the SAD Sudoku

(Published on 4. December 2020, 09:57 by bigger)

Standard sudoku rules applies. Fill the grid with numbers from 1 to 9 so each digit occurs exactly once in every row, column and 3x3 box.

Every digit has SAD, social anxiety disorder. If all the digits orthogonally adjacent have a difference no more than 3 with the central digit, the centre implodes.

All imploded digits are given. Beware the unimploded I7

This puzzle is made by Old Miles from China. It's actually an extention of the 'almost' series, but this one is actually a fun one. Others are just too hard to enjoy.

Since nobody will rate the difficulty, I don't have to find out what you think. In my opinion, 2 star puzzle can be solved without pencil-marked gird as in n-sum. 3 star needs a lot candidate. 4 star needs chain and 5 star inhumane. A hard to decipher rule will add an extra star, as in the biggest longest Sudoku. So don't expect too much of the puzzle I post. It may not be your standard but it's my standard.

And if you do have SAD, I mean you no harm. If you don't have, remember sometimes people just want to be alone.

Solution code: row 8 and column 9 (18 digits)

I like the idea, but found the puzzle a little tedious, requiring many many pencil marks and chains/trial and error. The negative constraint did not seem very helpful.

bigger:It definitely needs pencil mark to make it easy to solve, which made it a 3 star. However, I didn't use chain or T&E to solve it. Negative constain is useful in the later stage. But it's hard to find the cell to use the constraint. The reason you might it tedious maybe because the rule needs to check 5 cells for the imploded. Anyway, it is a time consuming puzzle.
