Urban battlefield sudoku

(Published on 30. July 2020, 19:10 by KevinCelis)

This sudoku combines skyscrapers with battlefield sudoku.

Normal sudoku rules apply.

Skyscrapers:
The number in each cell represents the height of the skyscraper built there. The black numbers outside the grid indicate how many skyscrapers can be seen looking at the row or column of the city from that location. Taller skyscrapers block the view of shorter skyscrapers behind them.

The skyscrapers on the red squares were destroyed by bombardments, they can't be seen by the skyscraper clues and can no longer block skyscrapers behind them from being seen.

Battlefield:
On this urban battlefield, the city was bombarded from 4 directions, top, right, bottom and left. Each bombardment reached X squares, with X being the first number at that side of the row or column, and counting the first square as part of the distance.

When a cell was bombarded from all 4 directions, the skyscraper in this cell was destroyed (red square).
All red squares are given.

The city erected some monuments to commemorate some of the bloodiest bombardments. (green numbers outside the grid) These numbers are the sum of all the digits where bombardments in that row overlapped horizontally or in that column overlapped vertically.
- this can be more than just the red squares
- this only takes in account overlap from that row or column, not overlap from a different direction (basically standard battlefield clues).

This had some really nice logic in it. I liked how the two clue types worked together.

It helps when I don't make a stupid mistake the first time through. Finally did it.

"These numbers are the sum of all the digits where bombardments in that row overlapped horizontally or in that column overlapped vertically." Either you mixed up horizontal and vertical, or I don't get what you're saying.

Edit: Oh, I get it now, "standard battlefield clues". First I thought you meant the perpendicular direction.

However, it's not really standard battlefield clues, because they're guaranteed to be overlaps, right?

*** yes, standard but they're guaranteed to overlap ***
