Aqua Sudoku 6x6

(Published on 15. June 2020, 02:00 by epsalon)

Standard irregular sudoku rules apply, using the digits 0-5. Additionally, shade each cell in the grid according to standard aquarium rules. If there is a small number in the top left corner of a region, that number indicates the sum of the underwater digits in that region. Furthermore, the digits in column 1 indicate how many cells in the corresponding row are underwater, and the digits in row 1 indicate how many cells in the corresponding column are underwater.

Solve using penpa-edit

Irregular Sudoku: Each row, column, or region must contain the digits 0-5 exactly once.

Aquarium: Every region has a “water level”, where all cells below that level must be shaded (underwater) and all cells above that level must be unshaded (over water).

Solution code: Digits of first 3 rows concatenated (18 digits in total)

My first solve as a registered user. I really enjoyed the ruleset. The solve was very nice, not too hard. Now its time for 9x9 version

If you liked this puzzle, please try my new 9x9 version. Warning: The 9x9 is considerably harder.

Epsalon, thanks a lot, I love ambiguities and self reference.

Thank you Joe Average. I am working on a 9x9 version. It's not easy to find a region setup that works even without given sums.

Sorry dm_litv that was my oversight. @epsalon

@Circleconstant314 Oh right yes that makes more sense. Thanks!

on 15. June 2020, 02:07 by Circleconstant314
@Greg: No, that 7 means that the sum of the digits that are placed underwater in that region, sum to 7.

on 15. June 2020, 02:05 by Greg
Not sure if i'm just misunderstanding the rules but doesn't that 7 in the last region suggest 7 cells are underwater in a 6 cell region...?
