Sudoku Variants Series (272) - Parity Parade Sudoku

(Published on 10. June 2020, 00:00 by Richard)

For this Sudoku Variants Project I have planned to publish a different Sudoku variant every week. I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.

Parity Parade Sudoku
Apply classic sudoku rules.
Clues outside the grid indicate the sum of the first N digits from that side. If the furthest digit from the border that is part of the sum is even, all digits before it are odd; if the furthest digit is odd, all digits before it are even. The value of N can differ from sum to sum, but a sum cannot consist of only one digit.

Basic inspiration for this type comes from glum_hippo but with a small change in the ruleset. A sum cannot consist of only one digit to give more power to the parity swap.

Solve online in F-Puzzles or in CtC-App (Thx Nick Smirnov!)

Solution code: Row 3, followed by row 8.

@marcmees I have been thinking over this constraint for two months now, and I struggled also. But it was a nice struggle indeed and to be clear I take no credit whatsoever for this lovely construction :-D

thanks Richard (and glum_hippo). Must admit I struggled a bit with nr 272, but eventually found the very nice logical path. Kept your series intact. :-)

Was heisst denn "alle Ziffer davor"?

English: Clues on the rim indicate the sum of a series of digits of non-uniform length (but always at least two) starting from this side, which all have the same parity (odd/even) except the last one (furthest from the rim).

I liked your puzzle! Intriguing to the very end. I have much to learn.

@glum_hippo: Glad you liked it, even with the slightly different rules. I don't say anything about the learning part, since I am stuck in at least three of your puzzles at the moment, so who has to learn? :-) :-)

Harder is certainly not the same as better, that’s all I’m saying. Thanks again

@glum_hippo: you are absolutely right about that! But I tend to stay far from discussions about 'better', since they don't make sense to me. I have 15 years experience in writing (puzzles and) sudokus as hobby for various purposes, so I know how to approach the writing process by now. Other authors have to find their own way and I think you are doing well too! At least I enjoy your creations so far.

Well, I'm having fun, & very glad I stumbled on this site!
