Magic Squares and Beyond - Sudoku

Normal sudoku rules apply. The green and gray squares constitute two magic squares, i.e., within each of them, the nine digits are distinct and any row/column/main diagonal sums to the same total. Note that the central square is both green and gray. In each of the nine 3x3 boxes, any three digits from three different rows and three different columns sum to the same total. For instance, this rule requires that A1+B2+C3=A3+B1+C2.

There is a clean logical solution path, requiring a non-trivial observation.

There was a (hidden) question about the rules. To clarify, the second constraint says that in each box, the sum of any three digits that belong to *three different rows and three different columns* must be the same. For instance, it requires that A1+B2+C3 = A3+B1+C2.

I'm curious to hear what logic you used to place a 7th digit in the grid (i.e. a 4th new one), if you do, and how difficult you found it to spot it.
