Life Sudoku

(Published on 25. April 2020, 18:40 by stephane.bura)

I made this puzzle to commemorate the passing of John Conway, the creator of the Game of Life.

Place a digit from 1-9 into each cell of the grid so that every row, column and outlined 3x3 region contains each digit exactly once.

Even digits represent live cells, odd digits dead cells.

All the live cells must survive to the next generation. This means that every even digit has exactly 2 or 3 even neighbors (orthogonally and diagonally).

The only cells to be born within the grid in the next generation are marked in orange. This means that only the orange cells can contain an odd digit with exactly 3 even neighbors (orthogonally and diagonally).

Here's the f-puzzles link to play it online.

I've spent many years exploring Conway's Game of Life, so I enjoyed this combination of Life and Sudoku.
