Great events drag their shadows behind them!

As it has been a tradition for a long time, this year's spring special edition is also dedicated to the most important event of the past year. Normally, our editors spend weeks in the run-up to the event to agree on which event of the previous year was the most important one. And indeed, last year's events have been quite capricious, just think of the impending Xexit (we reported on it in detail at the time), which was averted at the last minute by the decimal ministry using all its diplomatic skills.

Nevertheless, this time there were almost no differences of opinion, and there is a very simple reason for this. Without a doubt, it was the one event of the last year that eclipsed all other occurrences by far and cast a spell over almost the entire population for days on end: the World Puzzle Championship, or WPC for short, which last year took place near a tranquil small town in Hesse, far away from the temptations that large cities unfortunately often bring with them.

You have probably all watched the exciting rounds of the championship on radio and television, if not on public viewing (which required some suffering due to the inclement weather). Therefore, we are especially pleased to present you a small 'leftover' here, which some authors of the WPC kindly made available to our newspaper. This is a Permaculture of two Twilight puzzle types on a 28x28 grid. Here are the rules:

Permaculture: Divide the grid into two parts so that one part contains a Twilight Tapa, the other part contains a Twilight Cave. Each of the parts must be orthogonally connected, and each cell must belong to exactly one of the parts. The individual puzzles are completely independent and do not interact with each other.

Twilight Tapa: Shade some cells so that all shaded cells are orthogonally connected and no 2x2 square is completely shaded. Cells with numbers may be shaded. Numbers in unshaded cells indicate the sizes of orthogonally connected shaded groups surrounding the cell. Vice versa numbers in shaded cells indicate the sizes of orthogonally connected unshaded groups surrounding the cell. In each case two groups have to be separated by at least one other cell (i.e. a cell of opposite colour or a cell of the cave). Position and order of the numbers in a cell is irrelevant.

Twilight Cave: Shade some cells so that all unshaded cells are orthogonally connected and all shaded cells are orthogonally connected to the boundary (note: the border with the Twilight Tapa counts to the boundary as well!) Cells with numbers may be shaded. Numbers in unshaded cells indicate the total count of unshaded cells that can be seen in orthogonal directions, including the cell itself. Numbers in shaded cells indicate the size of the group of orthogonally connected shaded cells to which the cell belongs. A group of shaded cells may contain no, one or more numbers.
