Sudoku Variants Series (234) - Four in a grow Sudoku

(Published on 3. July 2018, 00:00 by Richard)

For this Sudoku Variants Project I have planned to publish a different Sudoku variant every second Tuesday. I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.

Four in a grow Sudoku
Place the digits from 1 to 8 and one arrow in each row, column and 3×3-box. The arrow can point in any of the eight directions. In addition, the first four cells encountered in the direction indicated by each arrow must contain four different digits in increasing order.

Inspiration for this variant comes from Sudoku Surprise Test by David McNeill.

Solve online in Penpa+ (Draw arrows in Shape mode. Use Tab button to switch between Sudoku and Shape modes; thanks Nick Smirnov!)

Solution code: Row 2, followed by column 6. (A for arrows.)

In retrospect, it was very obvious and I was probably puzzling way too late, haha!

I really don't know what to add to:

In addition, the first four cells encountered in the direction indicated by each arrow must contain four different digits in increasing order.

Just to confirm I've understood everything properly here. In the first four cells as indicated by the direction of the arrow, there can't be an arrow because arrows are not digits?

Das Rätsel hat mir sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Danke.

Thick fingers: there was a digit too much in the code. Should be fixed now.

Are you sure that the code is correct? Can't find any mistakes in my solution...
