Snakescrapers krypto

(Published on 27. June 2018, 10:02 by DarkBeamIta)

I "stole" this idea from the portal, don't remember who made this before tho! :)

Anyway I personalized it a little.

LEFT: Snake puzzle, classic, green cells are head/tail of the snake.

RIGHT: Skyscrapers, classic.

Both puzzles have just one solution. No given clue was > 9.

All occurrences of 1 haven't been replaced. Besides, all occurrences of four different clue numbers were substituted with letters A,B,C,D. Finally, the remaining clues are instead replaced with algebraic expressions, but a different expression does not always mean a different result!

Can you solve those puzzles?

Solution code: Write the first row of skyscrapers, then the 6th column of skyscrapers

@Anna to avoid complaints about the length of the solution code ;P :D

Once I understood the rules (danke an jessica6 für ihre Ausführungen) the puzzle was great fun. But why isn't the snake included into the solution code?

Quote"Another question: "All occurrences of 1 haven't been replaced". This is valid only for the Snake puzzle? (For the skyscraper it makes no sense...)"

Is this so? I thought this is valid for both puzzles!

@zorant
A,B,C and D are right.
But look at the "2" and "3" in the Skyscaper...

Ignore snakes as for solution code :)

@Luigi; exactly. I had to use a cryptic language, so understand what I meant was a part of the game. ;) Actually many mathematical puzzles have misleading phrasing
@Jessica6 yes!
@jalbert :D

Thank you-- I enjoyed it!

I also had difficulty understanding this.

"all occurrences of 1 haven't been replaced": No other clue can be 1, and the result of an expression also must not be 1 (otherwise, the 1 would not have been replaced)

"all occurrences of four different clue numbers were substituted": this means every hint which equals one of these numbers is either A,B,C or D. And the result of an expression must not be equal to A,B,C or D, or else it would have been replaced directly with a letter.

"the remaining clues are instead replaced with algebraic clues": remaining means all the clues which are not 1,A,B,C,D. So an expression does not evaluate to 1,A,B,C,D, but it may evaluate to the same value as another expression.

Maybe I do not understand the rules in total:
None of the given clues may have the value 1?
So neither A/B/C/D nor (C-D) may be replaced with 1?
Nor can the value of C-D have the value of A or B or A+1 have the value of B/C/D or B+D have the value of A or C?

Hi!
@Luigi; yes, it is all correct. But keep in mind "a different expression does not always mean a different result"
@jessica; I am not 100% sure of that. But I think the expressions would turn to nonsense for many combinations of random values for ABCD. So you have to choose them wisely to say the least ;P

What do you mean with "both puzzles have just one solution"? Does it mean that there may be combinations of A,B,C,D where the snake and/or skyscraper has multiple solutions, but these combination aren't allowed?
