Double Dutch Sudoku Advent (22) - Consecutive vs. Coast to Coast

(Published on 22. December 2014, 12:00 by Eisbär)

Richard and I have created a fresh sudoku advent calendar in which we combine a well known variant with a relatively unknown variant every day. Combining variants leads to interesting and surprising new solving techniques.

Logically solvable
All puzzles can be solved completely logically although the logic is sometimes well hidden and is inherent to the combination of restrictions that the different types offer. For that reason we have written some solving hints for most of the puzzles, published in a very tiny font. If you want to read the hints, simply copy these in a text editor and enlarge the font size.

Consecutive
Place the digits from 1 to 9 in every row, column and 3x3-block. In all cases where two neighbouring cells contain consecutive digits, a circle is placed between those cells.

Coast to Coast
The digits outside the grid are in mirrored position in the first three cells from the left and from the right (if one digit is in the second cell from the left, the other digit has to be in the second cell from the right).

Solving hints

8 in block down-middle not in R89C456; R7C4 = 8
9 in R7C1 or R7C9; R7C1 and R7C9 contain {79}
8 in block down-right in R8C78; 4 in R8C23
R8C1 = 6 ; R7C1 = 7; R7C9 = 9
R9C12 = {89}; 6 in R9C89
R7C23 = {12}
4 not in R8C3 due to missing dot; R8C2 = 4 ; R8C8 = 8
7 in R9C7 or R9C9; R9C8 must be 6 ; R9C2 = 8, R9C1 = 9
R9C3 = 3 ; R8C3 = 5; R9C4 = 1 ; R9C5 = 4; R9C6 = 2 ; R8C4 = 3
1 can’t be in R6C123; R6C2 = 3 ; R6C8 = 1
R7C2 = 1 ; R7C3 = 2
