April ABCtjes Monat (4a) - Distanz-ABCtje

(Published on 27. April 2012, 12:00 by Richard)

April ABC-month (4a) - Nonconsecutive ABC

Every letter of the alphabet has a different value from 1 to 26. In the following names of German cities almost all letters appear. The numbers behind the names are the sum of all individual letters of that name.

Numbers attached to letters in the alphabet may not be consecutive. Example: when T=14, S and U may not be 13 or 15.

Solution code: The values of N to Z (13 numbers).

@NickSmirnov Puzzle 4b is the puzzle with ID 11F by Richards (and our) friend Arvid Baars, posted on the same day. Richard discontinued posting his "Friday noon puzzles" here, when the Dutch Puzzle Association started posting daily puzzles (of which Richard contributed a big part in the first years) on their website wcpn.nl.

@Richard, do you remember why this puzzle has the 4a number? Did you plan 4b ABCtje?

And it seems that you do not find the idea of another ABCtje month (or any other themed month for that matter) appealing anymore. I guess SVS takes all of your puzzle-creation time?

Realshaggy answered your question already.
As an addition you can read here a bit more about my decision.

Compared to 2015 I am even more active in the board of the Dutch association, so I have even less time for activities here in the portal (I would like to solve more puzzles/sudokus published here for example), but life is a matter of choices.
I think I found a balance; publishing SVS’s here in the portal feels good to me, since the whole series is publicly available for those interested in all the different variants and at the same time I have enough time for my duties at WCPN.
BTW: it seems you didn't solve Arvid's share in the two advent calenders of 2012 and 2014. I can really recommend those as well... ;-)

@Realshaggy, @Richard, thank you for the answers.
Richard, actually there is a little story about Arvid's puzzles. Dream Theater ABCtje caught my attention some time ago because I also like this band (especially the early stuff). I really liked this puzzle (but I'll put the solution on your birthday :D), so I thought that this Eisbär guy must be a great puzzle maker and I should solve his puzzles after I'll solve all the Richard's puzzles that I can.

Aha, a fellow DT-fan!
Nice to read. :-)
I have seen about 12 concerts of DT over the last three decades and also like the old stuff best. Nowadays there are many other interesting bands in the progressive rock scene that I like to listen to. (I have named them in my user profile here.)

It took a lot of time to discover the step-up while test-solving, but in the end it flew! Liked it!

Hi Gabi, I have some good news for you: I have a few unused ideas about ABCtjes left for a future ABCtjes-month.
I have to admit that four ABCtjes in a row was ‘ein schwere geburt’. Before April started I didn’t have any of these puzzles ready. And unthough I have a lot of experience in making them and they are among my favorite puzzle types, it gave me some stress now and then having to work with a deadline. (Especially (3) was a hard nut to construct.) But I promise there will be a next ABCtjes-month. In that case I will make sure I have all puzzles ready before the month starts. Haha.
