I have spent the past three weeks fighting against myself to find a way to make a 16x16 Still Life puzzle that resolves uniquely despite having digits higher than 9. After a successful construction using rules that only applied to the small digits I decided to give the diamond symbol a different effect when containing digits higher than nine.
I must admit Leviathan has been somewhat of an inspiration, and is probably helpful when solving this puzzle.

Rules:

Normal (hexadecimal) sudoku rules apply
Place the digits 0 to 15 in each row, column, and 4x4 box. Use the letters A to F for the digits 10 to 15 for the sudokupad completion and the solution code.

Still Life

Shade some cells green ("live cells") such that the – up to – eight cells neighboring each green cell contain exactly 2 or 3 other green cells and the neighbors of each 'unshaded' – or grey – cell ("dead cells") do not contain exactly 3 green cells

DIAMONDS
Consider a cell in the grid marked with a diamond. Call A3 the 3x3 region centered on the diamond and A5 the 5x5 region centered on the diamond.
Consider the sets of cells S1 and S2 defined as such:
S1 is given by the cells of A3 inside the grid
S2 is given by the cells of A5 not in A3 and inside the grid.
in the following picture S1 is marked red and S2 is marked blue.


A cell in a diamond may be any number from 0 to F.
If the digit X in a diamond is between 0 and 9 (0≤X≤9), then there must be exactly X cells in S1 that are alive, or exactly X cells in S1 that are dead.
If the digit X in a diamond is between A and F (10≤X≤15), then there must be exactly X cells in S2 that are alive, or exactly X cells in S2 that are dead.

Note: the following rules completely reproduce the behaviour of the diamonds in Leviathan, and only differ for large digits.
