The Unnecessary Theorem

(Eingestellt am 29. April 2026, 13:50 Uhr von Dr Logic)

Preamble

Currently in the final stages of writing my dissertation (thesis). As a result I have a disproportionate amount of puzzle ideas in relation to free time, however I still want to upload nice puzzles for you all. To compromise, I have been looking at old concept puzzles that never amounted to anything, fixing them up and getting them in a state that I am (relatively) happy with. This is one such puzzle.

There is a unique solution, and it is solvable by a human (I am the test). Please write a comment of your thoughts, critical or appraisal, as it helps me improve as a setter. I hope you enjoy! Happy solving!

Rules:

  • Standard Sudoku rules apply.
  • Digits along the arrow sum to the digit placed in the connected circle.
  • Digits cannot repeat along a gold 'nabner' line and cannot contain any two consecutive numbers.
  • Digits equidistant from the centre of purple 'zipper' lines sum to the digit in the centre.
  • Adjacent digits along a green 'german whispers' line differ by at least 5.
  • Cells separated by an X sum to 10. Not all such Xs are given.
  • Cells separated by a black dot are in a 1:2 ratio. Cells separated by a white dot are consecutive. Not all such dots are given.
  • Cells marked with a square are even.

If, like an absolute legend, you have solved this puzzle and want to see another puzzle by me (one that I spent more time on, and therefore am more proud of) then follow the link below to the LMD page of my most recent puzzle. All about modular arithmetic and mathematics! Enjoy!

8% of men are color blind. VERY, VERY few of the puzzle makers have the consideration to make them suitable for us. Please consider labeling the color lines or choosing a basic color such as red, blue, yellow, green or black. It is not that difficult and you would help many color blind people to be able to solve your puzzles.

Hello dr logic , im new to this website . I've been playing android apps sudoku for many years now , though i can't think of how you're making these Sudoku puzzles , so you must be smart. I appreciate what you're making and what you're doing for the community .please keep up the amazing work and have an amazing day .

Thank you for the kind comment friend! I'm glad you liked the puzzle! Setting puzzles seems overwhelming at first but is a LOT of fun! I recommend giving it a go! My choice for starting setting is using the website 'sudokumaker.com' and learning about the constraints.

Good luck!

Pretty fun but definetly 1* in difficulty, the lesser known rule types are fairly approchable in this puzzle

------------

It seems as I overestimated the difficulty of this puzzle, I'm glad the true difficulty has arose.

Thank you for the kind comment, glad you
enjoyed the puzzle!

I found it very approachable but also very enjoyable.

----------------

Thank you for the kind comment, glad you enjoy! I did consider 1 star as a rating but decided to keep it as 2, as not all beginner puzzlers are used to all of the rule types here, and it may be overwhelming. I agree it is closer to 1.5 stars perhaps, but unfortunately LMD only has ratings of natural numbers, I personally would love an irrational rating scale.
