Shifter Lines 106: Searching for 5s

(Eingestellt am 5. Dezember 2023, 10:31 Uhr von gUBBLOR)

Another Shifter Line puzzle, number 6 in the series. The previous and next puzzle in the series:
Shifter Lines 105: Phistomefel? Who's that?!
Shifter Lines 107: Shifty little arrows

All my series:
Equality Cages
EquaLite Cages
Shifter Lines
Shifter Dots

Rules:
Normal Sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1 through 9 in each empty cell. Digits must not repeat within the same row, column, or box.

Shifter lines: Adjacent digits within the same box on a shifter line share both parity (even/odd) AND polarity (low/high). Whenever the line enters a new box either the parity OR the polarity shifts, never both. Shifter lines can never have 5 on it. Digits may repeat on lines.

Kropki dots: A black dot between cells indicates cell values with a 2:1 ratio. A white dot between cells indicates cells with consecutive values. Not all dots are shown.

X: Adjacent cells connected with an X must sum to 10. Not all X's are shown.

Search 5: Each arrow points to the closest 5, where the digit on the arrow is how many cells away the 5 is. For example, lets say there's an arrow in R1C1 pointing to the right. If R1C1 was a 1, R1C2 would have to be 5. If R1C1 was 8, the 5 would have to be in R1C9. There may be multiple arrows pointing to the same 5, and it's not necessary for every 5 to have an arrow pointing to it. If R7C7 was a 6, there would have to be a 5 in both R1C7 and R7C1.

There is a setting (under Visual) called "Draw Arrows Above Lines", and I'd recommend you set that to "On".

I don't understand the confusion with the rules. Other options can be eliminated almost immediately so you get the 5's and arrows right away, the ruleset is very clear. Quick and fun one, almost a Speedrun. Starting to love shifter lines!

Very nice and very approachable!

The search 5 rule could use some clarification that it is the closest 5 in the direction of the arrow, not necessarily closest to that cell. Otherwise great puzzle!

This was a new constraint for me and I quite enjoyed it. Thanks very much - the whole thing flowed very smoothly.

I'm pretty new to these sorts of puzzles, so the white dot also confused me (should've read the rules on this website). Was still able to solve it yayy!

Fun puzzle for the evening

I also suggest to clarify the rules: arrows show the distance to the 5 in that direction - this is not necessarily the nearest 5.
All dots are not necessary and also you can cancel one of the Xs without making it more difficult ;)

Brilliant! Just started solving line sudokus and this was so much fun.

You've added the Kropki dot explanation to the logic-masters.de description but it's still missing from the Sudokupad version!

Happy you enjoyed it! I can no longer edit the puzzle on sudokupad without having to recreate it (and because of the arrows that would be a pain). I have no links to the puzzle on sudokupad outside of LMD, almost everyone will already know what that kropki does, and the puzzle is solvable without it, so sadly it'll have to stay that way. I appreciate the feedback though!

Everything is great except I don't understand what that white dot between R5C4 and R6C4 stands for.
UPD: it's mentioned in another puzzle: "A white dot between cells indicates cells with consecutive values"

Sorry about that and thanks for the feedback, I'm updating the rules right away!

Nice fun puzzle. Enjoying the series. I haven't yet attempted 105, will try soon.

That was really nice, I did missunderstand "Each arrow points to the closest 5" rather than "Each arrow points to the first 5 in that direction", Thank you
